With relatively little fanfare, the New York State Legislature recently passed legislation with the power to quickly improve the lives of thousands of New York families. Once enacted, the bill would permanently raise the amount of rental assistance available from the Family Homelessness and Eviction Prevention Supplement (FHEPS) program to enable families to lease apartments at rents up to the full fair market rent.
